Welcome to James Greenhalgh Counselling
I am an experienced and accredited counsellor with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
I aim to bring a gentle and empathic, but clear thinking approach. I offer a confidential space where anything may be said and what needs to be shared can be, for there is enormous power in expressing what has been repressed or shut down.
I believe continuing professional development is important and I regularly attend trainings and seminars to extend my knowledge and keep up to date with current thinking.
I abide by the BACP Code of Ethics and in line with this my work is regularly supervised by a registered and qualified supervisor.
My training has been rigorous and externally accredited. I was awarded the Tunbridge Wells Counselling Centre Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling in 2014 and the Tunbridge Wells Counselling Centre Diploma in
Psychodynamic Counselling in 2016. I have been counselling individual clients since 2015.
I offer sessions in person in Patcham, Brighton. I also work online (using FaceTime or Skype) and offer telephone counselling. It's possible to use a mixture of these. If you are not sure then we can be in communication to discuss this further.
The counselling relationship is central to my work. Each client is unique and what happens in each session is co-created between us. We might touch on some of the following topics:
- Events in your past and the sense you made of them
- The story of your childhood and how you were brought up
- Your current ways of relating to others and what these may mean
- Your internal world and how you feel inside
- Dreams and fantasies
After a brief consultation by phone or email; we can arrange an initial meeting, without obligation, where we can explore together whether counselling is right for you, and whether I am the right person for you.
If we agree to ongoing work together then we will meet weekly at the same time on the same day. Each session will last 50 minutes in total.
I welcome and work with clients who come to counselling for all kinds of reasons. Areas I have covered before include:
Abuse, anxiety, bereavement, career counselling, depression, panic attacks, post traumatic stress, relationship issues, self-esteem, separation and divorce, sexual identity, sexuality, and stress.
Talking to someone in confidence about your particular problem can, and often does help. It's an opportunity to really reflect, which can lead to change and unexpected benefits.
Where I work.
I work in the Patcham area of Brighton. There is ample free parking in the road outside.
Please contact me with questions and queries via my phone number and email below, or the instant messaging option opposite.
I currently charge £55 per session and each session lasts fifty minutes. Under some circumstances I am willing to negotiate a fee reduction, particularly when working with young people.
